A Broadband Network Owned by Pauma

PAUMA FIBER INITIATIVE

A Network for Pauma, by Pauma

Across Indian Country, broadband has usually arrived as a service sold by outside carriers on terms set elsewhere. The Pauma Fiber Initiative changes that model: the network belongs to the Tribe. Decisions about pricing, service standards, and where the network grows next are made at Pauma, for Pauma.

The network design uses fiber-optic cable along road corridors to carry the bulk of the data, with fixed wireless technology reaching homes where trenching isn’t practical. This infrastructure connects tribal government, schools, the clinic, and emergency services alongside households, with backup power to ensure the connection holds during outages. EnerTribe serves as the engineering and infrastructure partner, bringing experience from across Indian Country to design, permit, and help deliver the network the Tribe has defined.
